Kōwhai, an adult female falcon was found in Motueka with some very extreme injuries, she had sustained a broken pelvis, shattered right hip socket, broken wing, lacerations to her leg and a broken beak.

After surviving the night at a local vet in Motueka, she was transferred to us here at the Kārearea Falcon Trust.

Kōwhai spent 8 weeks in intensive care with Diana Dobson, our aviary manager at the time. Once on the way to recovery she was brought into the aviary for rehabilitation.

She has now been paired with one of our males Tahi and has successfully laid her first eggs this season (2023).

Kōwhai is not currently banded
